Medicare-Certified Hospice Care in Los Angeles at New Vision Hospice

Los Angeles, CA, USA – We are pleased to announce that New Vision Hospice is now a Medicare-certified hospice care facility.

“We know it is important to our patients or residents and their loved ones that they be able to use Medicare benefits to pay for hospice care, and by being Medicare-certified, they can afford our hospice services,” said Gene. K – New Vision Hospice office manager.

The Need for Medicare-Certified Hospice Care Facilities

Out of 2.6 million people who died in the United States in 2014, 8 out of 10 of them were on Medicare. This makes Medicare the largest insurer of health care provided during the last year of life. This means that millions of people needed Medicare-certified hospice care facilities, and not all facilities receive this certification.

Hospice care facilities who receive certification from Medicare must meet specific requirements and offer quality hospice care services that meet the insurance’s standards.

Medicare Certification for Hospice Facilities

Medicare offers recipients coverage for hospice care if they seek a Medicare-certified hospice care facility. To receive this certification, the hospice care facility must provide compassionate end-of-life care. This is provided by a team of medical and support professionals who aim to keep terminally ill patients comfortable. Comfort includes managing the person’s illness and pain, but does not treat the underlying illness. The hospice care may also provide spiritual and emotional services to patients as well as the family during this sensitive time.

Care provided to patients at a Medicare-certified hospice facility includes: physician services, nursing care, physical therapy, hospice aide, medical supplies, counseling, and short term inpatient care. The hospice facility with Medicare certification must assess the individual interested in services to identify whether that person has 6 months or less to live. The benefit can be elected by having the election form signed by the beneficiary or representative. The hospice physician must certify the form.

Every 60 days, the hospice physician must assess the patient’s condition and renew the benefit for another 60 days if the person continues to meet the criteria for the benefit.

Certification from Medicare gives the hospice care facility the power to help terminally ill patients receive quality end-of-life care. Medicare trusts this hospice care facility to determine eligibility for benefits. To do this, the hospice care facility must have a hospice care physician available for assessments and certifying election forms for new and existing patients.
